Welcome to Mr. Nordt's webpage!
This will be a fun year at Lyon Elementary, as I will be teaching 3rd grade Science, Social Studies, and Word Study (spelling, phonics, cursive) . Students lucky enough to be in my class will also have two other wonderful teachers in a trifecta learning environment. Mrs. McMillan will teach Math, and Mrs. Rightmer will teach Reading & Language Arts.
Please allow me to tell you a little bit about myself: I was born in Houston and grew up in nearby Missouri City, Texas. After college at Stephen F. Austin State University, I worked in the business world for IBM and Tenneco Gas Headquarters in Houston. After about 14 years, I decided to pursue a more rewarding career in teaching. I went back to night school at the University of Houston - Downtown to acquire my teaching credentials. Once all my requirements were met, I left the business world and became a teacher. This will be my 22nd year as a teacher. Wow, seems like it was just yesterday when I started.
Please feel free to email me any time you have a question or concern. I am here for you as well as your child. This is a partnership. I look forward to getting to know you as well as your son or daughter.

Students will have a success starter (warm-up) assignment to complete the minute they walk into the room. Students are expected to come into the class, take out their assignment folder, and follow the directions on the big screen right away. Every minute counts. Each child will need three folders with paper inside. One folder each for: Social Studies, Science, Word Study. Students are expected to follow directions, do their best, and shoot for the stars.
Spelling homework will be the majority of any homework given. I try to overload kids with homework. I want them to like school, not hate it.
Each child will have a weekly folder that goes home. Inside is information about upcoming events, graded papers, and a conduct page for you to sign. Please sign the conduct page and have your child return this folder the next day. This is our weekly communication. These folders are very important.
