Dean Nordt 2019-2020

      Greetings Everyone,
      Welcome to Mr. Nordt's webpage!
This will be a fun year at Lyon Elementary, as I will be teaching 3rd grade Math & Science with your kiddos.  Students lucky enough to be in my class will also have Mrs. Brown as their Language Arts & Social Studies teacher.  We will be the dynamic duo!
Please allow me to tell you a little bit about myself:   I was born in Houston and grew up in nearby Missouri City, Texas.  After college at Stephen F. Austin State University, I worked in the business world for IBM, and Tenneco Gas Headquarters in Houston.  After about 14 years, I decided to pursue a more rewarding career in teaching.  I went back to night school at the University of Houston - Downtown to acquire my teaching credentials.  Once all my requirements were met, I left the business world and became a teacher.  The year was 1996.  Wow, seems like it was just yesterday when I started.
Please feel free to email me any time you have a question or concern.  I am here for you as well as your child.  This is a partnership.
Below is the schedule that your child will have this year for Mr. Nordt & Mrs. Brown:

Class Procedures:

Students will have a success starter (warm-up) to complete the minute they walk into the room.  Students are expected to come into the class, take out their assignment folder, and follow the directions on the big screen..  Each child will need three folders with paper inside.  One each for: Science, Math, and a STOP Folder for unfinished work.

I try NOT to overload kids with homework.  I want them to like school, not hate it.  However, unfinished work due to absences or misuse of time in class will become homework and the student's responsibility to complete.

Each child will have a WEDNESDAY folder that goes home every Wednesday.  Inside is information about upcoming events, graded papers, and a conduct page for you to sign.  Please sign the conduct page and have your child return this folder the next day.  This is our weekly communication.  These folders are very important.

I look forward to getting to know you and your child this year.  Thank you for the honor and opportunity to teach your son or daughter.
